Hello..

Welcome to the official homepage of Wimut Wasalai. This page tells biography of the maddest man on Earth.

Childhood and Education

I was born in Bangkok in 1970. In my childhood, I lived in Rayong. I studied in Guanghua Chinese Primary School. Then I entered Rayong Withayakom School. After that, I studied vocational degree in Rayong Technical college in electronics field. I left Rayong and entered Bangkok when I was 19, to study at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology North Bangkok for diploma degree. After graduated from KMITN, I studied in King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) in faculty of engineering, computer engineering department.

What I Do Now

After graduated, I worked at Datamat for about two years as a programmer. I nearly became a private programmer and book writer. Actually I did it for awhile, but I changed my mind and went back Rayong to help my family business. Hense, my main job now is merchandising. Beside, I am also involved in computer engineering. I am still chasing the fast growing computer technology frontier. My engineering spirit has not gone away. Today, I am still writing computer programs, writing many articles, and mastering several webpages.

Interests & Hobbies

I have variety of interests. I am interested in every branch of science. I have wished to be a scientist since I was very young. The two most favorite branches are astronomy and zoology. I often go out for stargazing. I have started looking upward to the sky since the arrival of Halley's comet.

My earliest memory about astronomy can be thought back to 1977, when I was 7. I read a science book for classroom, which my teacher did never taught in the class. One chapter tells the story about the Halley's comet. I was very impressed and have started trying to learn everything about science espectially stars and planets. Ten years later, Halley came. I made a 40x refractor telescope, which was later modified to 80x. I named it Kodomo. Kodomo shown me several spectacular space facts such as Saturn's rings, craters on the Moon, Sunspots and Jupiter's satellites.

In 1992, I joined Thai Astronomical Society and has become the TAS executive committee member since 1996. My main roles in the society are mastering the society's web pages and writing articles for its publication the Milky Way Journal.

Beside stargazing, my bird watching trip may be more often. I am also a member of the Bird Conservation Society of Thailand, Wildlife Fund Thailand, and Birdlife Club. I've taken a lot of photographs of the birds. My favorite bird is the Oriental Magpie Robin, a very common bird even in big cities. The most impressive scene I ever seen in bird trips was the Helmeted Hornbill gliding across a hill in 1997, Hala-Bala Wildlife Sanctuary. This place is really the heaven for bird watchers.

Actually my most favorite animals are not birds, but mammals, espectially feline species and other canivores. Therefore when I am in the nature trail, I always look for mammals as well as birds. When I visit a zoo, I always feel like a little boy. I often spend a long time at the cages of wild cat zone. My fond of cats is not expressed at only in zoos. I write a web page "Cats, the Graceful Hunter" (in Thai). This page tells all about 37 species of cats in the world. This page is currently incompleted. Only ten of the 37 species are completed.

Some say that I was addicted to music. Yes, I think so. I listen to several kinds and ages of music, from Baroque to Pop, from ancient Europe to Thai country (Luk Thung) music. My CD shelfs are filled with classical music CDs. Most of them are Classics. Beethovens may account for up to 30% of them.

Greatly inspired by Muhammad Ali, Daley Thompson, Zhu Jianhua and Carlos Lopes, my favorite sports are boxing and athletics. Though my greatest wish to be a world boxing champion never come true, I could do another hope, to complete a marathon. My first marathon is 2006 Khonkaen International Marathon. Today, I still go running to chase my new hope--to win an Olympic gold medal.
